Perhaps it’s something to do with number one son returning from Australia that turned Mrs Summerhouse’s thoughts to the time we spent there about ten years ago. This is a painting – oil on canvas – of our ‘back garden’ and its an old example of her art. The trees in the foreground are orange trees which meant freshly squeezed orange juice every morning. You can see why some people take to the place, specifically a beautiful part of Western Australia called the Ferguson Valley about two hours south of Perth. The hills in the background are typically red sandstone and the further east you go the more red (and barren) the landscape becomes until you’re in outback country proper.
Maybe the other reason she’s posting this painting from the archives rather than creating a new one is since the arrival of the dear boy, she’s had less time for her own pursuits. Funny that.
