I must admit I’m slightly nervous about this blog and that’s why I’m writing it a week ahead of what has become my recent schedule of one blog every two weeks. The more astute of you will note that it is only one week since my last post.
And what a mini furore that (my last blog) caused. For reasons that are beyond my understanding and that of two more knowledgeable people that I asked including my IT guy who said somebody must have complained – really?, Facebook decided (for the first time in over 1500 blogs to ‘ban’ that last post or ‘removed’ it as they put it and when I try to find out why they say, or their algorithm says, ‘it looks like you tried to get likes, follows, shares or video views in a misleading way’. See above. Wow, all I can say is I wouldn’t know how and furthermore have no interest in doing any of these things. But try telling them that -you can’t.
Maybe it was because I said something unkind about Facebook a few blogs ago (I wrote what a lot of rubbish there was on it). If so well that’s fine I only use Facebook to give a little more exposure to the blog. Whoops perhaps that’s what they mean. If they permanently ban me well so be it, I’m not convinced it does me or my blog any good anyway.
Funny really because just the other week I was just musing on how fortunate I was to be retired in a world of modern technology. I thought that multi-channel TV programmes, my musical recording equipment, my laptops, iPad, phone, internet and so on all made my retirement a rather better experience (i.e. more options) than it would have been in the days of gramophones, one channel TV, analogue dialling phones and so on.
Of course it may be true that more options is a good thing – not all would agree. Depends on your retirement lifestyle I suppose. But when they don’t work or like my Facebook experience stop giving satisfaction, then they are far from being an asset to anybody’s retirement. I suppose it’s my fault for developing this kind of dependency on things largely beyond my control..
Now, given, as I said, I may be in danger of this blog being banned, I’m not going to write a very long blog this time. About half my usual length, so I’ll stop and try posting it on Facebook. Thank you for taking part in this modern day technology experiment.
