The dale being Nidderdale in Yorkshire, the location of our vineyard. Looking very different at this time of year. Mrs Summerhouse created this about a month ago when we had our first, and so far, only snow, not looking very likely for a white Christmas either. Still at least she captured this beautiful scene.
We wish you all a happy Christmas or whatever your version of that might be and I’ll hopefully write a bit about ours for next Tuesdays blog, assuming it hasn’t been too terrible.
I just love Mrs Summerhouse’s art, especially for the colours and shapes of the fields. This one with white fields makes the sky more prominent.
I’m wondering how large the painting is? Do you scan them or take a photo?
Thanks Maddy, in old money the biggest are about 3′ by 4′, the snow one is 2′ by 1 and 1/2′ , the one she’s working right now is about 2’4″ by 3’4″. They’re mostly pastel on canvas, some watercolour on canvas and some watercolour and ink on paper. Either she or I take photos and she works from them and sometimes real life or thumb nail sketches. No scanning involved. Now she has her new iPad for Christmas who knows what she’ll come up with!
