Retirement blog : Photographic reminiscing

Posted on March 6, 2020March 6, 2020

I know I’ve written this before but bear with me one more time. If you’d asked me a couple of years before I retired what I would do with my freedom, I would probably have said something like, play golf and develop (no pun intended) my photographic skills. Neither have happened. Any photos in recent years have appeared by accident on any of our random travels.

One of those random trips is happening this week. We’re off to the second of our ‘nice hotels that take dogs’ stays. This time to The Devonshire Fell hotel at Burnsall. I posted some photos from this visit about this time last year. Maybe that was what inspired me to put together this blog knowing I would not have time to write one.

This is a collection of 10 photos chosen very much at random from my photographic archive. It’s random because my photo files have very little in the way of organisation to make them accessible. So just a matter of pottering through my hard drive.

As I say a real mixture 1) Below, an early attempt to blend colour and black and white and a picture of a train emerging from a tunnel. This one near home. 2) Jump to a totally black and white image taken in Glasgow if I remember correctly. 3) A geographic leap to America, New Mexico in fact, and another blended effort showing Shiprock mountain (sacred to the Navaho) and a beer package somebody had kindly left there.

4) Switch continents to the Australian outback somewhere in Western Australia. Again I tinkered with it a bit. 5) and 6) a kind of visual favourite of lamp-posts in the gloom. The first one of the two is taken on the shore of Lake Wanaka, South Island, New Zealand. The second much closer to home, taken near Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. 7), 8) and 9), completely arty images requiring a lot of messing about with. The first one above is a photo of The Blasket Islands off the coast of County Kerry. It’s simple and straightforward and one of our favourite views.

Hope you enjoyed my trip around the world complete with ‘photoshopped’ imagery where necessary.
