Retirement blog : picture souvenir

Posted on August 2, 2019August 2, 2019

The country has been battered by hail stones. we feel like we’ve been battered by London. We must be getting old. We came back on Tuesday and we felt absolutely knackered.

We didn’t take many photos, we don’t these days, and I’ve had to work hard to put this blog out with any kind of visual interest. I tinkered with them more and more as I went along. Incidentally the one in Trafalgar square with the red bus and cones, you will think oh, I’ve seen that before, everybody does that. And so they do but I did it first about 30 years ago. You probably think I’m making it up but it’s true. By the time I got to Battersea power station I’d really turned on the electronic wizardry. Probably unrecognisable. Sorry.

We had breakfast in Covent Garden on Tuesday at The Ivy would you believe, and here’s the napkin to prove it. The first picture of the old market that’s a bit dull. The second photo of the Eye, well that’s cut down a bit to make it a bit more interesting.

The last photo is perhaps the weirdest of the lot. The items between them we acquired for £140. Ah ha you think, about £70 each but you’d be very wrong. The hat cost that amount and the umbrella was for free. We went into a Sainsbury’s near Covent Garden to buy an umbrella and they’d sold out, probably on account of it peeing it down. The guy said sorry and then had a thought and went and got this umbrella that somebody had left an not come back for and gave it to me. Who says there’s no kindness in the big city?

Then I went and spoilt the saving by paying a ludicrous amount for the hat. I said I wanted one like John Betjeman and this is what I got. It’s a trilby apparently. Retirement does funny things to your brain.

Well this Londoner liked your photos, including the red bus and the hat!
