What is a retirement hobby? At the risk of appearing a bit one-paced, another idea from last weekend’s Observer. This from a supplement entitled Make a New Start in 2022. Subtitled ‘tips and ideas for finding a new adventure in the new year’. Among the usual suspects – cookery, volunteering, gardening, kayak racing, music and photography – there was Rachel Cooke writing about the joys of collecting art. Not specifically retirement hobbies but close enough.
So inspired by this article, although I could hardly call it a new start, I decided to look at a small section of our art collection in just one house. And we could easily fill another – the Colorado cabin??
I’ve decided to present the images, or some of them, in the way they are arranged in the house. We have a black and white room (the main bedroom); a map room (the front living room) and the railway room (more a part of the landing than a room) where most of my railway art is gathered in this house. The rather limited photo of the railway art is at the beginning of this retirement hobby blog. I apologise for the lack of clarity.
