Well the wait goes on and on. Who knows by the time I post this blog I may have heard back from a hospital, any hospital, preferably one I have visited in the last year But yes, any hospital.
The first thing that needs to happen is for the CPEX test results to come back. These results will tell me whether I’m fit enough to have the colon operation. If I am then the colon operation can go ahead. When that’s done and I’ve sufficiently recovered then the prostate operation may proceed. Simple.
But I guess you’ve already spotted the flaw. In case you’ve missed it, it is that the CPEX results after two and a half weeks show no sign of appearing. This despite three phone calls to my surgery and 2 to the hospital in question. This is no place for the man or woman who likes /needs to be in control.
So I’m returning to this blog, now it’s about one month and still no test results. The closest I’ve got is four conversations with the secretary of the surgeon who is theoretically going to carry out the colon operation. I hope he is a better surgeon than administrator. Each time I call his secretary she assures me he will call me and each time he fails to do this simple task. I am getting very pissed off waiting for him to do what he says he will do. I’m no surgeon so perhaps making a phone call is more difficult that performing bowel surgery.
Today is Monday. His secretary has told me he will call me today definitely. If he doesn’t I’m going to sack him. I’m going to negotiate with my prostate surgeon to see if he will do the TURP (Prostate surgery) before the cancer op. Not what everybody wants but I’m rapidly losing interest in what ‘they’ all want.
This is a risky strategy as I could end up alienating the experts. So hopefully he will contact me today and I won’t have to take the risk. And what do you know, about two hours after writing this he called. The man himself, suggesting a date for the operation of June 5th – maybe. He couldn’t say definitely because he needed to round up an assistant as he couldn’t quote, ‘do it on his own’. Not sure I wanted to hear this but there we are.
He shared with me the news that my CPEX result was borderline and that this increased the risk. I hadn’t the heart to ask him to explain further as I was giddy on the basis that he had called when he said he would so didn’t ask any questions which when I’d put the phone down I thought was rather foolish of me. Hmm.
He will let me know this week if the 5th is a goer. So watch this space for the very latest news. By the way I also called the prostate guy with the intention of trying to get a date from him while I was possibly on a winning streak. No reply as yet. No surprise then.
